Evaluate exothermic reactions before scaling up
Calorimetry is a useful tool in scale up chemistry. It allows potentially dangerous reactions to be accurately investigated on a small scale before being transferred to the
pilot plant.
Calorimetry can be carried out in scales from 1ml to 250 litres.
We can offer a complete range of calorimetry equipment from simple reaction calorimetry to full non-isothermal
calorimetry. We also have a full range of thermal analysis equipment.
All of our reactor systems have a heat flow calorimetry option, including our FlexyLab parallel processing system. However, as these systems have not been optimised for
calorimetry the accuracy is normally something like 5-10%. This is suitable for screening, but for more detailed analysis it is better to choose a dedicated calorimeter. Based on the FlexySys
software, the Calo 2310 reaction calorimeter is available in three versions, Eco, Base and Pro.
Calo 2310 Eco
The Eco version comes as standard with a 1 litre glass triple walled vessel and can be used for heat flow calorimetry in isothermal situations. The control software uses the
same drag and drop recipe editor as the FlexySys software but adds the “Blue Window” to give an on line display of the power and heat of the reaction as well as the cp, U and A. The
Kalograph software supplied allows full calorimetric analysis of the resulting data.
Calo 2310 Base
The Base version adds a sophisticated mathematical model of the reactor which allows calorimetry to be carried out without calibration before and after the reaction. This is
often useful for thermally unstable products. This also allows calorimetry to be carried out under non-isothermal conditions. Automatic base line calculation makes this system even more
flexible and easy to use.
Calo 2310 Pro
The Pro version includes heat balance as well as heat flow calorimetry and can therefore operate under non-isothermal conditions. It gives great accuracy with processes that were previously difficult to measure including crystallisations.
